Aerowolf ended their Pro League Season X Grand Finals campaign as semi-finalists after going down 0-2 to USA-based DarkZero Esports.

What happened: Team captain Glen “Lunarmetal” Suryasaputra partially attributed the loss to the lack of preparation — the team had prepped 3 weeks for the Giants Gaming quarter-finals matchup, but only prepped the day before for DarkZero — while Patrick “MentalistC” Fan said the team’s fundamentals were not as good as DarkZero’s.

Why this matters: Aerowolf’s semi-final finish was an unexpected one for the team — in the Giants post-match interview, Adrian “Ysaera” Wui said that the team had fully expected to go down 0-2 against Giants Gaming in the quarter-finals.

  • Swan song for MentalistC: Aerowolf’s best-ever finish in competition to date was a fitting send off for MentalistC, who had earlier announced that he would be leaving the team after the tournament.
  • Giant killer: Aerowolf’s 2-1 (6-8, 8-7, 7-5) victory over Spanish side Giants Gaming in was the first time an APAC team defeated a European team in a major. They also took down APAC heavyweights Fnatic and PET Nora-Rengo in the APAC qualifiers.

What’s next: Aerowolf’s next major international fixture will be the Six Invitation 2020, to be held in Greater Montreal, Canada February 7 to 14. They’ll have to replace MentalistC — although they apparently have a candidate already lined up.
